Glasgow International: Mathew Parkin – Lug

Saturday 9 May, 2020

Born in Wakefield and living in Glasgow, artist Mathew Parkin has long been interested in ideas relating to the body and accessibility, class and intimacy, geography, queerness, sex and kinship. Parkin’s work spans text and moving image and often involves collaboration with friends, lovers, peers and family, both as subjects and during the process of production.

Parkin presents a new exhibition entitled Lug, which means to pull or carry as well as an ear. Making reference to the Yorkshire Dialect Society, founded in 1897 to collect recordings and other material to facilitate the study of dialect form the region, Lug consists of a new online moving image work and an installation in Ibrox Library.

Supported by Glasgow International, The Art House, Wakefield and Creative Scotland.
