4 things to do this weekend – 19 May

There’s another great selection of events and activities taking place around Renfrewshire this week if you’re looking to pick up a new hobby, learn a new skill or listen to a fantastic selection of music – we’ve got it all happening!

British Pipe Band Championships – Sat 19 May, 9am – 6.30pm, St James Playing Field

One of the most prestigious events in the world piping calendar comes to Paisley as the British Pipe Band Championships head to St James Playing Field. Over 150 bands from around the world will come to town to compete for a range of titles. This is the third time Paisley has hosted the championships and this is sure to be another great day out for the family and the best thing is it’s all free!

NNE Presents Dirty Harry – Sat 19 May, 8pm – midnight, The Bungalow Bar

If you’re a Blondie fan then a trip to The Bungalow Bar has to be on your list for this weekend. Back by popular demand tribute band Dirty Harry will perform some of Blondie’s biggest hits including Heart of Glass, Rapture, Sunday Girl, Dreaming and Atomic.

Afternoon Musical Extravaganza – Sun 20 May, 3.30 – 5.30pm, Paisley Methodist Church

The fabulous ROCKUS Community Choir and Renfrew Burgh Band will be entertaining the masses with some wonderful music! The concert will see the two talented groups collaborate in specially-arranged performances of some well-known numbers from the world of film, stage and classics and some solo delights. The great news is that audience participation is encouraged!

Argentine Tango Beginners Lessons – Sun 20 May. 6pm – 7pm – Elma Whyte School of Dance, Paisley

If you want to get some fancy feet why not try the new course of beginner Argentine tango lessons at Elma Whyte School of Dance. The courses will run for 10 weeks and be a fun introduction to this fabulous and creative dance. These classes are ideal for brand new beginners or anyone with very little experience of the Tango.

Booking is essential as last year’s classes filled up very quickly.
