Be a tourist in your town – Renfrew

Friday 7th August, 2020

The historical county town of Renfrew and ‘Cradle of the Stewarts’ has lots to offer visitors.

The town is famed for its early links with Scotland’s former royal house as well as its great shopping and leisure offering.

Activities and sights

Renfrew boasts fantastic architecture and a rich, royal history. On a stroll around the town centre you will see the stunning A-listed mid-Victorian Town Hall building, often referred to as the ‘Disney Castle’ for its distinctive tower which is also home to a VisitScotland 4-star community museum (currently closed).

The town is also ideally-placed for exploring the Renfrew Riverside area. Visitors to Renfrew can head along to Clyde View Park – the first new park to be built in the West of Scotland for many years – featuring fountains, paths, cycleways, play areas, picnic areas, green space and a riverside walkway. It was designed to encourage natural wildlife, and flora and fauna. It’s also a great spot to watch the boats and ships go by.

Eating, drinking, shopping and leisure

This historic county town has loads of great places to part with your hard-earned cash. Here are some of the places you told us to visit in town:

handmademoment5 commented on Instagram: “Renfrew is where I live now, and I love Green Gates down by the ferry for a good curry. St Andrews Good Food is run by two lovely ladies who make the best hot and cold rolls. Robertson Park and Clydeview Park are both great parks to walk round, I’ve done a fair bit of that during lockdown!”

@liz_mcvey wrote on Twitter: “Can’t beat Robertson Park, excellent play area too.  @DLRenfrew is great, we are missing it very much. @65greengates for amazing food, Luna Rosa too.”

@ikathrynxoxo also tweeted: “Luna Rossa and Piccolo Mondo for food.”
