Fancy arm-wrestling one of Scotland’s strongest men?

Friday 17th May, 2019

How would you fancy taking on one of Scotland’s strongest men in an arm-wrestling contest?

That’s what the pupils of Ms Heywood and Mr Smith’s P3/2 and P3 classes at Glencoats Primary School did this week!

Strongman Andrew Cairney paid a visit to the school ahead of this year’s British Pipe Band Championships in Paisley.

Andrew will be MC of the Highland Games and strongman competitions at the event on Saturday 18 May in St James Playing Fields.

Andrew took on the might of Hollie Stewart, Isla Cairns, Lucas Kane, JJ Clark and Lewis Balfour … we’ll leave you to decide who came off best in the contest judging by the pics above!

This is the first year of Paisley’s staging of the event that will feature a Highland Games and strongman competition.

Highland Games athletes will compete in events such as the hammer throw, stone putt and caber toss with the Scottish Open Strongman contest featuring the log lift, Pictish Stone carry and Atlas Stone lifting.

You can also test your own strength with a series of challenges for the public all afternoon…

And the pupils of Glencoats? We might just see one of them winning at a Highland Games in the future!

Watch the strongmen compete...and test your own strength!
