There’s a great selection of events and activities taking place across Renfrewshire in May to suit a range of interests. Here’s a rundown of just some of the great things happening in the coming weeks:
Hipsway – Paisley Town Hall – 6 May
After sell out shows at the O2 ABC and Kelvingrove Bandstand LNP Promotions are set to bring 1980s new wave pop band Hipsway to Paisley to perform live at Paisley Town Hall on Sunday 6 May.

Renfrewshire Mental Health Arts Festival – Various – 8 – 27 May
As part of Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, Renfrewshire will once again hold its own jam-packed programme of events covering everything from music, film and visual art to theatre, dance, and literature. The purpose of the festival is to support the arts and challenge preconceived ideas about mental health.

Make Mess Matter – Ikea – 9 May
Ikea will host a messy play experience for kids on Fri 9 May from 11.30am – 12.30pm. Tailor made to your child’s individuality and suitable for children of all ages and abilities, it engages the senses while developing skills and coordination through play. The aim is to ‘Make Mess Matter’.

Castle Semple Rowing Club Regatta – 12 May
One of the biggest rowing events in the Scottish Calendar takes place at Castle Semple on Saturday 12 May. The Rowing Regatta will see the boats fill the Castle Semple Loch making for a great spectator event for all the family.

Houston and Killellan Kirk Carnival – 12 May
The Houston and Killellan Kirk Carnival returns with this year’s theme being The Blue Planet. The fantastic family day kicks off at 21 noon with the parade leaving the church being led by the 1st Houston Boys and Gils Pipe Band. There will also be a variety of stalls and activities taking place throughout the day.

The British Pipe Band Championships – St James’ Playing Fields – 19 May
The British Pipe Band Championships are one of the most prestigious events in the world piping calendar. Over 150 bands will travel from around the world to the St James’ Playing Fields, Paisley, to compete for a whole series of title.
The championships are at the heart of a great day of fun, with plenty of family activities taking place alongside the bagpiping.

Harlem Globetrotters 2018 Tour – Braehead Arena – 24 May
The world famous Harlem Globetrotters, featuring some of the best and most exciting athletes on the planet, will bring their spectacular show to Braehead Arena as part of their 2018 World Tour.
Every game will showcase a range of ball handling skills and techniques with some fantastic fan interaction.
