This underground structure is an archaeological and architectural gem – one of Paisley’s best historical assets.
For Doors Open Days on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September, there will be a 15 -minute guided tour led by an archaeologist and expert on the Abbey Drain.
Access is via a manhole and 15 foot/3 metre vertical ladder. The ground is not level underfoot and standing water of up to 4 inches/10 centimetres exists in places. This tour is therefore not suitable for people with mobility issues or children under 12 years old. Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn.
Thank you for your interest. The ballot is now closed and successful applicants will be notified soon.
If you are successful, we’ll contact you to arrange an arrival time for your tour. Arrival times will be:
- Saturday and Sunday – 10.15am, 11.15am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Please allow yourself one hour for your overall visit.
A maximum of six places will be available for each tour.
We’re asking for your email address so that we can let you know if you’ve been successful in winning a visit down the Abbey Drain as part of Doors Open Days. We will not use this for any other purposes unless we have your consent to do so.
We’re also asking for your postcode and age bracket if you are happy to provide this because we want to monitor the demand for increasing access to the Abbey Drain. This information would not be used to identify you personally but we would like to share this generic information with potential external funders.
