This underground structure is an archaeological and architectural gem – one of Paisley’s historical assets.
For Doors Open Days on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September, you can win a 15 -minute guided tour led by an archaeologist and expert on the Abbey Drain.
Access is via a manhole and 15 foot/3 metre vertical ladder. The ground is not level underfoot and standing water of up to 4 inches/10 centimetres exists in places. This tour is therefore not suitable for people with mobility issues or children under 12 years old. Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn.
If this amazing opportunity is for you, please note we expect demand to be high so places will be allocated by ballot (details below). But don’t worry if the tours aren’t suitable or you aren’t lucky enough to secure a place – we’ll have lots of interesting things to see and do, all inspired by the Abbey Drain and archaeology, on Doors Open Days on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our ballot. The ballot is now closed and we’ll notify the successful applicants as soon as possible.
If you are successful, we’ll contact you to arrange an arrival time for your tour. Arrival times will be:
- Saturday – 10am, 11am, 2.15pm and 3.15pm
- Sunday – 10.15am, 11.15am, 1.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm
Please allow yourself one hour for your overall visit.
A maximum of five places will be available for each tour.
