Paisley Gig Guide – 27 April 2018

Friday 27th April, 2018

There was loads of great music on in Paisley yet again last weekend but the highlight for me was the musical put on by the St Mirren Fans.

From 12 noon at Gilmour Street, outside The Bankhouse, Saints fans sang their hearts out before the game against Morton. And it didn’t stop there – at about 2.30pm they marched to the Paisley 2021 Stadium to see their heroes lift the SPFL Championship trophy to the beat of the drum.

After the celebrations at the stadium, they once again paraded back into town centre still singing all the way and lining the streets to cheer the open top bus with the winners on board.

Fans belted out more songs when the team got on stage at Renfrewshire House and the noise was deafening.

Big congratulations to St Mirren for a wonderful day and well done to all the Saints fans for one of the best musical spectacles we have seen in the town for a while. ‘We Are On Our Way’ indeed.

Back to this week and another weekend of fantastic bands are lined up for you to go and see.

Tonight at The Bungalow, Drew McCulloch and the Spirit of Slim Chance bring alive the music of Gallagher and Lyle and Ronnie Lane.

This is a must see show for all you music lovers out there and support on the night comes from talented local artist Lisa Kowalski. It looks like a great night and starts at 8pm.

Tomorrow night is the one and only Jah Wobble. Jah began his musical career at the age of 18 as a founding member of Public Image Limited.

He has been described as an English bass guitarist; singer, poet and composer. His heavy, hypnotic bass lines defined the post punk era and have influenced many musicians over the last 30 or more years.

The band’s debut album Public Image Limited included the band’s eponymous first Top 10 hit single. Tickets are £12.50 and kicks off at 8pm.

Tonight at The Cave is Bad Boy Boogie at 9pm and tomorrow Vague Reality starts at 6pm. The very popular Black Triangles are playing from 9.30pm till late.

On Sunday from 6pm, The Lynsey Dolan Band are back at the popular venue for another standout gig.

The Old Swan have The Last Resort on tonight at 8pm and tomorrow is a double bill starting with Sad Ida at 4pm, followed by Wreckless at 8pm. Andrew O’Donnell is performing at 7pm on Sunday.

The Spuds play on Monday from 3pm and Wednesday sees a Jam Session hosted by Jim Keilt and friends.

There is a Shelter fundraiser taking place tonight at Callum’s Cavern, featuring bands The Zips and Combat Rock. Tickets are available on the door and starts at 8pm. Good luck to everyone involved and here’s hoping the event makes some money for this deserved cause.

Duo Rumours are at The Anchor tomorrow at 6pm then on Sunday Robert McIntosh will be performing some Soul and Motown from 4pm. On Monday, Jen McLauchlan will be back playing at 4pm.

Open Mic Nights this week:

Sunday: The Bungalow with Cat Caldwell

Monday: The Abbey Bar hosted by Dunky Hunter at 8pm

Tuesday: Andy Lindsey at The Anchor from 8pm

Wednesday: Johnny Barr is the host for Burger and Keg at 8pm. Also on Wednesday is Andy Lindsay at The Patter Bar from 8pm.

Thursday: Cat Caldwell and friends will be at Cosmopolitan from 8pm.

There’s lots of great music on in the town this week, so get out and support local bands and venues and have a great time. Keep Music Live.

Paisley's musical faces

I was born in Paisley and lived there for 38 years before moving to Canada. I loved the town and the people I met through the years. Like most places, the people make the town, whether they be what you class as good people or not - it doesn't matter, as all the characters make Paisley wonderful as it is.
