Starting primary school

There is nothing more emotional that sending your wee ones off into the big wide world.

Hankies at the ready…your child will begin school at or around the age of five (if their fifth birthday falls between 1 March of that same year and the last day of February of the following year). Registration usually takes place in the January and classes being in August.

You can only register in one school and you should bring with you your child’s original birth certificate and two proofs of residence.

If you want your child to go to a different school you will also need to make a placing request.

If you are unsure which school you should register at, or you require any further information call 0300 300 0170.

Additional support needs

Renfrewshire has two additional support needs schools. If you live in Renfrewshire and you would like to make placing request for an independent additional support needs school, we recommend that you discuss this with the Additional Support Needs manager in Children’s Services before submitting the application form. See Renfrewshire Council website for more information.
