Supporting a wide range of heritage activity in Paisley
Paisley’s Townscape Heritage and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme2 (TH.CARS2) is shaped through engagement with the local community and stakeholders. The 5 year Heritage Education, Training & Events Activity Plan (HETE Activity Plan) is an expression of that dialogue and is a significant part of Paisley’s TH.CARS2 programme. It offers multiple opportunities for Paisley’s diverse communities to engage with, and learn more about, all aspects of their heritage. The HETE Activity Plan offers a means to showcase and share that heritage locally and nationally, and to nurture civic pride.
We are delivering a programme of heritage activities, including: workshops; demonstrations; residencies; exhibitions; performances; film showings; talks; lectures; seminars; conferences; CPD’s; and specialist training. These activities are either individual events or scheduled as part of Paisley’s annual events calendar – in particular, TH.CARS2 contributes to the programme for Sma’ Shot Day/Weave, Renfrewshire Doors Open Day and Renfrewshire Mental Health Arts Festival. Our extensive activity plan ranges from one-off taster sessions which allow participants to try out skills, to progressive programmes which allow attendees to develop their skills and learning over time. At present, all of these events are free to attend and we endeavour to make them as open and accessible as possible.
Building on best practice
Preceded most recently by the Townscape Heritage Initiative/Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (THI/CARS) at Causeyside Street and the award winning Grand Fountain: Interpretation & Restoration project at Fountain Gardens, TH.CARS 2’s Activity Plan learns lessons from both: continuing to invest in successful partnerships; develop skills; animate the streetscape; and build on best practice.
Paisley TH.CARS2 is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and Renfrewshire Council
