Bishopton

Visit Bishopton and enjoy exploring this popular and easy-to-reach village in west Renfrewshire.

Once a place famous for producing ammunition and explosives, Bishopton has been inhabited since as far back as Roman times. Artefacts discovered at a local Roman fort uncovered in 1949 are on display in The Hunterian in Glasgow. Now a place of community and culture, there are plenty of reasons to visit Bishopton.

Accessible from the M8 motorway and with an excellent train service, it’s very easy to explore Bishopton and see it all for yourself. The village makes for a great stop off on a bike ride, with good cycle links to neighbouring Erskine and Inchinnan.

Two of Bishopton’s most famous attractions are the award winning Ingliston Country Club, and five-star Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort. Mar Hall was in-part designed by Sir Robert Smirke, the architect of the British Museum.

Just outside the village, you might be able to spot the 24m tall Blantyre Monument. Although the obelisk isn’t accessible to visitors, it’s striking position in the centre of a field is quite a sight!

For golfers, the nearest club is Erskine Golf Club, situated between Erksine and Bishopton. The club takes it’s name from the Erskine Estate, on which Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort is now based.
