Whether it’s a trip to the seaside, live music or the chance to learn something new – there’s plenty for the kids to enjoy at this year’s Sma’ Shot Day.
There are loads of great activities taking place during the celebrations in Paisley Arts Centre, Shuttle Street, New Street, Witherspoon Street and Brown’s Lane.
You won’t be stuck for things to do on this free, family day out!
1:00pm – 5:00pm – Doon the Watter – Seaside Experience – Paisley Arts Centre grounds
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside… and we’re bringing it to you this summer with this outdoor experience in the grounds of Paisley Arts Centre. Kids can grab a bucket and spade and enjoy the outdoor beach while adults can relax on deck chairs. Let’s just hope the sun has its hat on…
12:00pm – 5:00pm – Face painting – Paisley Arts Centre grounds and Brown’s Lane kids zone
Kids can let their imagination run wild and be transformed into anything they like with free make-up and face painting in both the Paisley Arts Centre grounds and Brown’s Lane kids zone.
1.00pm – 5:00pm Puppet shows with Big Top Circus – Paisley Arts Centre grounds
Everyone loves a puppet show! Kids can laugh the day away with traditional puppet shows featuring a cast of hilarious, colourful characters (shows last 40mins, beginning every hour).
1.00pm – 5.00pm – Knitting on Cloud Nine “Doon the Watter” – Paisley Arts Centre studio
Rosie from Knitting on Cloud Nine is offering 3 fun activities to appeal to kids of all ages. Rosie teaches knitting and is passionate about helping people learn the traditional skill in a fun, modern and sustainable way.
Activity 1 – Jolly Jellyfish. Age toddler + (with a little help from Mum or Dad).
Use drawing & colouring skills to design a jolly jellyfish and add some trailing tentacles from waste textiles and yarn.
Activity 2 – Driftwood Wall Hanging. Primary age kids +
Take the beach vibe back home by making a floaty wall decoration that would look great inside or outside.
Activity 3 – Knit a Tiny Fish. Primary age kids +
Come and have a go at knitting – it’s easier than you think. Kids can try a few rows or go on to make a really cute little fish in super chunky wool in gorgeous colours.
1:00pm – 5:00pm – Storytelling Yurt – Browns Lane
Kids can discover more about the Sma’ Shot story, Paisley’s weaving heritage from professional storytellers at the popular storytelling yurt in Brown’s Lane. Suitable for all ages.
12:00pm – 5:00pm – Circus Skills with Big Top Circus – Brown’s Lane
Kids can learn circus skills and enjoy carnival craft workshops
with Big Top Circus. There’s a feast of activities for kids of all ages, as well as opportunities to get active, be creative and most of all have fun.
12:00pm – 5:00pm – Bubble making with Big Top Circus – Brown’s Lane
An exciting opportunity for kids and adults to learn a range of bubble themed party tricks and activities.
1.00 – 5.00pm – Create Paisley present String Art Workshop – Faction, Shuttle Street
This workshop will teach the process of creating colourful string art, giving kids the chance to work with others to design something amazing. Suitable for children of all ages.
2.00pm – 5.00pm – Stramash with Fèis Phàislig – The Bungalow
Kids can join some of Scotland’s top traditional musicians for a bumper afternoon of music. Fèis Phàislig’s first ever Stramash event will feature top quality traditional music alongside interactive performances for all ages. Kids can enjoy some ceilidh dancing and learn a Gaelic song or two. Younger audience members will also have the chance to be part of the band for the afternoon! The event is open to all ages.
1.00pm – 5.00pm – Sensory Safe Space – Russell Institute
A quiet space especially designed for individuals with additional support needs and their carers featuring sensory arts & crafts, musical instruments, gentle music and soft seating. Support workers from Disability Resource Centre will be available in the space along with noise cancelling headphones in both kids and adult sizes.
