This course is for those who would like to develop their confidence, improve their public speaking skills and try their hand at performance art.
Learn about the work of seminal performance artists and contemporary performance companies such as Goat Island, Meredith Monk, and Guillermo Gómez-Peña, and work creatively with your voice, physicality and various materials to make your own performance compositions. Develop collaborative and solo work in a fun, engaging and safe practical workshop environment.
Led by a practicing artist, practice-researcher and graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Contemporary Performance Programme, this course will encourage participants to create a series of short performance works whilst simultaneously developing performance and presentation skills, and is suitable for complete beginners without any performance or drama experience and those looking to further their existing performance practice.
This course will facilitate a flexible learning environment that is open to and responds to the needs of the class. We will learn and explore the basics of performance through various fun, and sometimes silly, games and exercises to utilise in our creative work. These performance skills will include vocal and movement skills, improvisation, and instant composition, alongside transferable skills such as confidence, creativity, and teamwork. We will explore methods such as Goat Island’s Impossible Tasks, Meredith Monk’s Performance Scores, and Guillermo Gómez-Peña’s Diorama Performances.
