Bellahouston Academy presents The Proclaimers musical ‘Sunshine on Leith’.
‘Sunshine on Leith’ is a heart-warming musical that follows the lives of two soldiers returning home to
Edinburgh after serving in Afghanistan. Davy and Ally, lifelong friends and comrades-in-arms, navigate
the challenges of reintegration into civilian life while grappling with their own personal struggles. As they
reacquaint themselves with their families and loved ones, they find themselves entangled in a web of
love, heartache, and self-discovery.
Against the backdrop of the picturesque Scottish city, the musical weaves together the timeless songs of
Scottish pop-folk band The Proclaimers to narrate the emotional journey of its characters. Through
rousing musical numbers and poignant ballads, Davy and Ally confront their pasts, confront their dreams,
and ultimately find solace and redemption in the bonds of friendship and community.
As their stories unfold, ‘Sunshine on Leith’ explores themes of love, loss, forgiveness, and the enduring
power of home. With its infectious energy, memorable tunes, and relatable characters, the musical
celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the universal quest for belonging and happiness.
