The story faithfully tells the story of Katherine Campbell (‘The Witch’) a maid servant at Baragarran House in Erskine and her accuser Christian Shaw (‘The Snitch’) a young girl and the daughter of the Laird of the Land in the 1690s.
Since learning of Katherine Campbell from a young age, and becoming fascinated with her, I have been fortunate enough to relive the dramatic events of her tragic short life in the form of a reenactment in Paisley more than a decade ago. last year I reprised that role as part of the Sma Shot Cottages Halloween Experience.
Katherine talking from beyond the grave, about the injustice. That the word of a child was enough to have you executed. Dark and superstitious God fearing times in the 17th Century.
Join me as we take a walk through my home town of Erskine. Where it all began over 300 years ago for Kathrine and 3 decades ago for me.
I’ll faithfully share my experiences about this remarkable tale and how I’ve been entwined with her all these years, feeling there is a purpose to it all, a powerful connection to tell Katherine’s truth.
The Witch & the Snitch is a catchy rhyming Scottish picture book, that is being illustrated by Daniel Brown. It is my feeling this book should appeal to both adults and primary school children and therefore will be dark in both text and illustration, but not scary.
My mission is to inspire the younger generation about this dark and fascinating piece of local history.
A talk about the Origins of the story, in the town where it all began, my musings on Katherine, my experience portraying her and what the process was like to convey that through performance.
