An Evening With Patrick Ness

Tuesday 18 September, 2018

**Patrick Ness** has won every major prize for children’s literature, including the Carnegie Medal, twice. His Carnegie winning book *A Monster Calls* was adapted for the screen in a major motion picture starring Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver, and this year appears on stage at The Old Vic as a theatrical production. His *Chaos Walking* trilogy, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, is also set for the movie treatment, with *The Bourne Identity’s* Doug Liman directing, and *Spiderman: Homecoming*’s Tom Holland and *Star Wars: The Force Awakens’* Daisy Ridley to star.

Join us for a chaired discussion with Patrick as he discusses his latest novel *And The Ocean Was Our Sky*. As with all Patrick’s novels, each one defies genre and takes a new and surprising turn and his new book is no exception. Inspired by *Moby Dick*, this stunning reimagining takes the perspective of the whale, turning the world upside down so the land of men becomes the abyss, and the ocean floor is their sky. Examining the power of prophecy and the relentless and hopeless nature of war, this modern fable will have much to examine for young people and adults alike.

***By buying a ticket (with or without book included) before 5pm on Monday 17th September you will automatically be entered into a competion to win an ‘And The Ocean Was Our Sky’ goody bag. The winner will be chosen at random and contacted via email the day before the event. Good luck!***
