Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-On

Saturday 17 November, 2018

Thank you to everyone who came to Paisley to watch us turn on our beautiful Christmas Lights. Over 27,000 of you in total joined in the celebrations!

Families enjoyed a full day of free fun, with Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron carrying out the big switch on, helped by 11-year-old Skye Thomson, from Paisley’s Heriot Primary School who won the annual Christmas card design competition.

Before that, hundreds of tinsel-clad youngsters paraded through the town centre led by Santa and his trusty reindeer.

Many families got an early start on Christmas shopping too with the town centre shops open for business and Paisley Abbey playing host to the unique makes of the Urban Market.

The main stage featured festive entertainment from Capital FM DJs Des Clarke, Steven Mill and Garry Spence, with performances from the Princesses of Pop and a rousing Greatest Showman sing-a-long led by performers from the McCallum School of music.

X-Factor stars The Cutkelvins entertained the crowds just before the big Christmas countdown began. The crowd cheered as the lights were switched on and snow-like confetti burst into the air.

Thanks again to everyone for coming along – it’s officially Christmas now!
