If you’re moving to the area as a family, you’ll want to know about primary and secondary schools in Renfrewshire.

Renfrewshire has 50 primary schools, 11 secondary schools and two additional support needs schools educating more than 23,000 young people.

Catchment areas

Every house in Renfrewshire has a surrounding area that associates with a primary and secondary school. This is called the catchment area.

You may ask for your child to go to a school other than your catchment school. This is called making a placing request.

Renfrewshire Council has a duty to grant placing requests, wherever possible. More information about placing requests is available on the Renfrewshire Council website.

Moving to Renfrewshire

If you are moving to Renfrewshire and your child has already been to a school elsewhere, the council will help you with your transfer request.

Simply provide them with proof of your new address and your child’s original birth certificate.
