Traditional Building Skills Work Placement Scheme

Worker repointing at Sma' Shot Cottages

Worker repointing stone at Sma’ Shot Cottages, Paisley – A TH.CARS2 Project

Are you a small or medium sized enterprise, specialising in a traditional building skill? If so, you may be eligible for a grant through the Traditional Building Skills Work Placement (TBSWP) scheme.

The TBSWP scheme is offered by Renfrewshire Council through Paisley TH.CARS2, a regeneration project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and Renfrewshire Council. Invest in Renfrewshire will also offer additional financial support through Scottish Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee.

The primary aim of TBSWP is to place 16 & 17 year olds in paid, full-time employment for a period of 12 months with a business specialising in traditional building skills. The young person must be a Renfrewshire resident, NOT in education, employment or training, and NOT eligible for the government’s Kickstart scheme.

Work placements should give young people hands on experience and encourage them to pursue a career in a traditional building skill. Work placements will include day release training at West College Scotland, where young people will study to gain a National Progression Award (NPA) in Construction Skills. By the end of a placement young people will ideally be considering starting an apprenticeship, progressing to another college course, or looking for a permanent job in construction.
