Semple Trail

This 15km / 9 mile trail links a series of visitor attractions between the villages of Lochwinnoch and Howwood.

Many are just a short walk or cycle from the Castle Semple and RSPB Lochwinnoch visitor centres. Other parts of the trail can be explored from links off the NCR7 cycle route and from Howwood Railway Station.

The changing landscape provides a variety of opportunities to uncover the area’s history and wildlife. The landscape of Castle Semple has been actively shaped over the past 500 years. During that time, a series of landowners made their mark on the countryside – adapting and engineering the landscape, shaping it for pleasure and for profit. Today, the area is home to an array of exciting wildlife, habitats and outdoor activities.

Picnic on the loch shore, visit an RSPB hide or climb up to the viewpoints and explore the paths that loop through the impressive woodland.
