Roman Coins: Heads and ‘Tales’

Tuesday 28 May, 2019

This tour will take in some of the Roman coin collection and highlight the diversity of the different designs that were produced throughout the Roman Empire. Some boast of great military victories, or celebrate grand building projects, while others carry more personal messages of family and the forging of dynasties. Coins offered a unique and effective way for emperors to spread propaganda and convey key messages to the people of the Empire and beyond, and this output offers a fascinating window into the concerns and hopes of the Emperor and his times.
