Take a closer look at Renfrewshire’s stunning night sky at a series of Dark Sky Viewing Nights.
Led by John Pressly – Science Curator at One Ren’s Paisley Museum – and Clyde Muirshiel’s Countryside Rangers, this series of outdoor events will explore some of the most mesmerising wonders of the night sky through a telescope.
Expect to see the Moon, Saturn, far-away galaxies, constellations and even the International Space Station.
This first viewing night on Monday 28 October will take place at Muirshiel Visitor Centre, within Muirshiel Country Park. This site has the darkest sky in Renfrewshire due to its unique moorland location, away from the polluting glow of the nearby towns and cities of the central belt.
Planned is an in depth look at the planet Saturn, which will be visible in the night’s sky and if not, an indoor lecture where John will take questions from the audience.
Further evenings are planned for November at Lochwinnoch’s Castle Semple Visitor Centre focussing on the Moon and December again at Muirshiel Visitor Centre to investigate deep sky objects. These will be live to book after the previous evening has taken place.
Tickets are priced at £9.50 and includes a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. This event is suitable for those age 8+.
