The Pearce Institute, Govan, Paranormal Investigation

Saturday 11 January, 2025

HISTORY & GHOSTS

Designed by Sir Rowand Anderson construction began in 1902 and was completed in 1906 in the style of a large 17th century Scottish town house. The Pearce Institute also known as ‘PI’ is a Category ‘A’ listed building in recognition of its national and international importance. The Institute was gifted to the working men and women of Govan by Lady Dinah Pearce in memory of her late husband, Sir William Pearce MP. Sir William Pearce was the first Member of Parliament for Govan and the manager of Fairfield Shipyards. Under the guidance and management of Sir William Pearce the Fairfield shipyards became the biggest and probably the most technically advanced shipyard in the world at the time.

This community hub, which has served the people of Govan since 1906, is thought to be haunted by Lady Dinah Pearce, who bestowed it upon the community.

In the Billiard room the image of a man has been seen in the corner watching everything and everyone.

The disconnected pipe organ in McLeod Hall saw a night watchman fleeing the building when it started playing of its own accord, a figure has been seen flitting across the main entrance foyer, where the lights flicker and the taps in the café area switch themselves on and refuse to go off.

The apparition of what is thought to be Lady Pearce has also been seen watching from the balcony of the McLeod Hall.

Light anomalies, disembodied voices, footsteps and full apparitions are just some of the phenomena that have been reported.
