Quiet and relaxed activities at The Burrell Collection – Sensory Friendly Programme

Thursday 27 July, 2023

We welcome children and adults with autism, additional needs, neurodivergence and sensory needs at the Burrell Collection.

To accommodate members of the public who can find a museum visit overwhelming and prefer a calmer environment, the Burrell Collection will have early opening dates as well as relaxed activities available.

We will be hosting quiet and relaxed activities on Thursday 6 and 27 July 2023, from 10.30-11.30am.

These sessions are essentially for, but not limited to, people with autism, additional needs, neurodivergence or sensory needs who may prefer a more relaxed experience. As well as their families, friends, and carers.

You will find sensory kits available at the reception for free and a quiet safe space available all day. For the early openings, where possible, loud sounds from audio-visual displays, interactives and films will be reduced or switched off.

Please be aware that the relaxed activities will be taking place during regular museum hours, so we are unable to control lights, sounds and visitor numbers. But first thing in morning tends to be a quieter time.

You can also download a visual storyboard before your visit on our website.
