Mickey 9s bring their post-funk evil disco to The Bungalow in Paisley for Independent Venue Week 2023 with support from motopia ♾️, The Barely Responsible and Sovirez.
‘Anybody who knows the Scottish music scene will tell you that Mickey 9s are one of the most exciting bands to see live. The irreverent four-piece from Glasgow combine elements of dance, punk and disco into a blistering, genre-defying groove that sends crowds into a frenzy. Previous Best Live Act Winners at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards. They are well known for their iconic music videos too. This year and next will see Mickey 9s take their incredible live show on the road to support the release of their third album Modern Kunst.’

motopia ♾️ ‘A singer-songwriter from Glasgow. Exploring folk sounds, accompanied by Andy McLaughlan on guitar, she invites everyone to be the most authentic version of themselves and finds comfort writing about her visions of this being expressed by a vast collective. She creates a space to appreciate the power of action, love and oneness and writes with the intention of anchoring a new level of consciousness.”
The Barely Responsible: ‘A three-piece indie band hailing from Irvine and East Renfrewshire, comprising of The Voice Kids UK 2020 semi-finalist Blair Gilmour, drummer Sam Craig and bassist Kyle McFie. Whilst riding out the obvious setbacks that transpired for the music industry from 2020 onwards, the lads dug deeper than ever to see it out the other end, having worked continuously to release their first single ‘Boundaries’ in October 2020. Their song was received well with RGM magazine hailing them as “…becoming the next best Scottish rockers”. When the green light went for live gigs, they didn’t disappoint. They were giving the opportunity to open the launch night of Venue38 in Ayr. This time PCN Magazine were on hand to catch their gig and noted them as “…the future of indie-rock’. We have recently released our third single ‘Memories’. Everything has been recorded, produced and mastered by ourselves in our own studio. We are currently working on an EP to be released this quarter of the year.’
Sovirez: ‘In a world where you can be anything, be unapologetically yourself! This statement encompasses what Sovirez is all about – taking a range of different musicians with a passion and experience in different genres and turning them into a sexy blend of uniqueness that will leave a lasting impression. Think a delicious combination of Pop-rock with some extra funky bass lines, a sprinkle of soulful vibes and throwing in some Motown flavour – this sums up the ingredients of Sovirez’ musical mix. This up-and-coming 5 piece brings together Anthony & Chris Squires, Graeme Gray, Calum Lamond & Steven Jess. Five guys from different sides of the Clyde who have not let distance or difference stop them coming together and creating the strong group you see now.Sovirez formed in 2019, creating their musical blend and perfecting their fully original line up to explode onto the music scene. With multiple plays on radio stations (including BBC Music Introducing Scotland, BBC Rapal, Amazing Radio USA, CamGlen plus many more), including Sovirez’s single “Stadium Heights” being chosen as single of the week in April 2022 for BBC Radio Scotland’s “The Afternoon Show”. The band have also has notable support slots with the likes of Callum Beattie, Wrest, Martha Hill, Brownbear and Blue Rose Code on two dates of their UK Spring tour 2022, as well as two sold out headline shows at The Flying Duck & Broadcast in Glasgow and a headline slot on the 2nd stage at ButeFest 2022. Their sound is out there and getting rave reviews. A band who are more than ready, and able, to entertain you and bring a whole new sound to the UK music scene and beyond. Prepare to have these songs replaying in your head for a long time to come.’
‘Independent Venue Week #IVW23 celebrates the spirit of independence and culture of live music and venues. We can’t wait to celebrate #10YearsofIVW in 2023 and write the new chapter with all the amazing independent venues around the UK.’
