In collaboration with Paisley Museum’s Looms in Schools initiative, professional weaver Gillian Lewis began to deliver the Artisan’s Institute – Young Weavers project in February 2020.
Acting as a weaving mentor, Gillian worked with staff and pupils at Auchenlodment Primary School, Castlehead High School and Mary Russell School, helping them learn how to use frame looms and a 4 shaft table loom and supporting them to realise their own creative weaving ideas.
After initial success, unfortunately this project had to be curtailed due to Covid-19. Gillian subsequently created the We are Weavers learning resource for schools in collaboration with Paisley Museum which was publicly available for anyone to use.
