National Cycle Network Routes 7 & 75

Follow National Cycle Routes 7 & 75 and discover dramatic landscapes and beautiful views.

National Cycle Route 7

Join the National Cycle Route 7 at Paisley Canal train station, push on those pedals and enjoy an exhilarating bike ride through picturesque towns in Renfrewshire.

Along the way, enjoy Johnstone’s scenic woodlands, and drop into the Weaver’s Cottage in Kilbarchan to discover what life was like in the 18th century as a typical handloom weaver.

Gaze out at the shimmering water as you carry on to Lochwinnoch, which lies on the banks of Castle Semple Loch and the River Calder. It’s fantastic for spotting wildlife and enjoying natural landscapes. You can cycle into RSPB Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve for a picnic or Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, where you can swap the bikes for boats and spend some time on Castle Semple Loch.

National Route 7 is a great way to take in what Renfrewshire has to offer at your own pace. Don’t forget all the wonderful rural bars and restaurants you might want to experience on the way back.

National Cycle Route 75

From Paisley to Johnstone, then Bridge of Weir and beyond, explore incredible countryside on a meandering cycle through Renfrewshire.

Before you set off from Paisley Canal train station, why not visit some of the attractions in Scotland’s biggest town?

At the early stages of your cycle, enjoy the woodlands areas of Johnstone as you cycle on to Bridge of Weir. If you would like to know a little more about the origins of Johnstone, the history museum offers interesting insights into a town that was once a key player in the thread manufacturing industry.

The rolling countryside of Bridge of Weir really opens your eyes to how beautiful Renfrewshire can be.

Take a little break by the River Gryffe, which is a popular spot for fishing or venture into Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and explore a park filled with exciting wildlife and activities such as nature trails and windsurfing.
