RSPB Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve is a great spot for a family day out.
As one of the few wetlands in Scotland, the reserve includes two shallow lochs (Barr Loch and Aird Meadow Loch) with surrounding water meadows, marshes and woodlands. These are perfect if you want to hang out with a variety of swans, wigeons and ducks!
In spring, the great crested grebes put on elaborate displays for those who visit.
This wetland reserve is ideal for all the family. The trails, birdwatching hides and visitor centre are all easily accessible.
The reserve has an outdoor natural play area, an accessible trail and events suitable for the whole family as well as daily drop-in kids’ activities (April to October).
Pop into the visitor centre for a light snack or a browse in the shop which has an array of bird feeding products, books, binoculars and telescopes.
Events and activities
There’s a busy events programme suitable for the whole family. Daily self-led activities include pond dipping and bug hunting (seasonally) as well as the monthly Wildlife Challenge. There are special self-led activities during the school holidays, with changing themes. Try out the new hide or the natural play area with tyre swing; explore the den building area, nest building area or the short fairy trail.
